AN asylum seeker from Ghana who was due to be deported from Northern Ireland yesterday is to be allowed to stay on for at least another week.
Richard Boateng has been detained in Maghaberry Prison for the past fortnight and his solicitors Madden and Finucane said they had been refused access to him on two occasion this week.
When an application for a writ of habeas corpus came before the High Court yesterday Seamus Treacy, QC, told Mr Justice Weatherup the immigration authorities had agreed to suspend deportation until noon next Friday.
Afterwards Peter Madden said he would try to see his client in prison next week and would inform the court about the outcome at the resumed hearing next Friday at 9 am - three hours before the extension is due to run out.
