The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced that commuters can now ply the Atimpoku-Asikuma road with ease, following its earlier closure to traffic.

This follows a viral video earlier showing that a portion of the road had been closed to traffic due to the heavy downpour on Saturday, June 29, 2024.

"The Ministry wishes to inform the public that an assessment undertaken by the Ghana Highway Authority after the floodwaters receded indicates that the 8.2m span bridge over the Fodoga River is in good condition. Hence, the road is now open to traffic,” the statement read.

According to the ministry, further investigations revealed that about 120m of the sealed surface of the road was, however, damaged by the floodwaters.

“There is also a need to improve the free flow of the river to avert the re-occurrence of the flood,” part of the statement copied to GhanaWeb read.

The ministry further added that it is mobilising the necessary resources to ensure emergency repairs.
