Atwima education director inspects Otumfuo education projects

Anwiafutu (Ash), Sept. 27, GNA - Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, the Atwima District Director of Education, has advised communities in the district to see educational and other social facilities being put up in their areas as their own and actively participate and take good care of them for the benefit of the future generation.

He noted that, some communities tend to be apathetic to the execution of some government and other organisation's projects being provided in their areas and said, such unco-operative attitudes retard progress and development.

Mr Obeng-Darko gave the advice, when he inspected some educational projects being put up by the Otumfuo Education Fund with support from the World Bank at Anwiafutu in the Atwima District last Friday. The projects are a six-classroom block, an office, store, library and staff common hall and six living rooms, two kitchens and toilet facilities for the teachers.

Mr Obeng-Darko said the provision of quality education in the rural areas, can only be achieved if adequate educational facilities were provided and urged the beneficiary communities to take active interest in the implementation of the projects. The provision of the educational infrastructure, he said, would not yield the desired impact, if the communities failed to offer the needed support and encouragement to the teachers posted to the area. He, therefore, advised the parents not only to provide the basic needs of their children but also send their school-going age children especially the girls to school.

Mr Obeng-Darko noted that despite various interventions by the directorate and other stakeholders to promote girls education, some societal norms, cultural and religious beliefs had prohibited some parents from sending their girls to school and urged the School Management Committees to intensify the girl-child enrolment and retention drive.

Nana Yaw Manu, the chief of Anwiafutu, commended the Otumfuo Education Fund for the provision of the educational infrastructure and promised to mobilise his people to support its early completion. 27 Sept. 04
