Atwima to get 50 boreholes this year

Nkawie (Ash), May 16, GNA - Preparatory work on the construction of 50 boreholes for some communities in the Atwima district of Ashanti to be funded by KFW, a German company had been completed and the actual sinking of the boreholes will begin in the middle of May, this year, authorities say.

Mr Charles Yeboah, Atwima District Chief Executive, said the provision of the boreholes would help solve the water problems facing the communities. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Nkawie at the weekend, Mr Yeboah who did not name the beneficiary communities, however, implored those that will benefit to support the project.

The DCE said the Judicial Service had agreed to upgrade the Nkawie magistrate court to the status of a circuit court and to create a magistrate court at Nyinahin.

Mr Yeboah said the district would also benefit from the construction of an Information Communication Technology Centre (ICT) at a total cost of 198 million cedis. He said the district assembly was contributing 110 million cedis towards the project, which will have a library, a television centre and an Internet caf?.

The DCE said the Ministry of Works and Housing had accepted to fund the improvement of water supply to Nkawie, the district capital and its environs.
