Audit report was an NDC conspiracy - NPP Youth

THE New Patriotic Youth League (NPYL) has said the Special Audit Report on the Ministry on Works and Housing was more informed by politics rather than professional obligation .

?The NPYL is highly convinced that the so-called audit was a conspiracy between the National Democratic Congress Trojan horses in the Audit Service and their masters to cause maximum embarrassment to the NPP government,? it said.

This was contained in a statement signed by the National Co-ordinator of the league, Mr Eric Mensah, in Accra yesterday.

The statement said the league finds it most amazing that a report signed for the acting Auditor-General and dated May 8, 2002 could become known to the acting Auditor-General himself only on June 21, 2002, six whole weeks after its issue and three clear days after the Minority NDC issued a press statement based on the report.

? We wish to caution the government against complacency in its dealing with fifth columnists and advise that while it pursues the policy of all-inclusiveness and transparency, it should exercise zero tolerance for public officials who are out to sabotage or embarrass government , as our investigation shows that the said report seeks to do,? it said.

The statement called on the government to institute, as a matter of urgency, a probe into the circumstances surrounding the audit report.

It said the probe should investigate the motive of the audit, its composition, and how it was released.

The statement said the NDC has no moral right to comment on the issue since ?after reporting for nearly two decades, the NDC has treated with contempt reports issued by the Auditor-General on corruption of government officials?.
