Australia to support for Planning office

Accra, March 2, GNA - Australia is considering assistance she could give Ghana to modernise the operations of the Town and Country Planning Department, it was learnt on Tuesday in Accra.

Mr Jen Richardson, Australia High Commissioner who expressed interest in the modernisation of the capital city concept hinted that there was the possibility of his country assisting Ghana by providing training and other resources to the Department.

He was speaking during a courtesy call on Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City.

A statement signed Ms Victoria Antwi-Sarpong, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry said the Minister expressed his appreciation for the gesture and briefed the High Commissioner on the potentials of tourism in the country and the challenges facing the industry.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey also dilated on the numerous challenges besetting the Town and Country Planning Department, which he considered as a critical outfit for the planning and development of the capital city and other cities.

He said the Ministry was finding ways to assist the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to rid the city of plastic waste.

The Minister restated the ongoing mosquito spraying exercise, which according to the reports reaching the ministry has proved successful. He said further investigation would be carried out to access the impact of the exercise.
