Salifu Saeed, Northern Regional Minister, has called on motorists to stay away from alcohol and drugs in the effort to maintain sanity on the roads and help prevent road crashes.
He said this during a road safety walk organized in Tamale by the Northern Regional Youth Authority in collaboration with the Northern Regional office of the National Road Safety Commission.
The event was held to create awareness on road safety to reduce crashes on the road.
Mr Saeed urged motorists to pay more attention to road signs and be cautious on the road to ensure safety for all users.
Mr Baba Musah, Northern Regional Advocate for National Road Safety Commission, said there is the need for drivers to get valid driving licenses and avoid overloading of vehicles.
He also advised riders to use their rearview mirrors and remain alert of other road users behind them.
Mr Eric Benson Gyan Ansah, Northern Regional Director of National Youth Authority, also called on drivers to use their seat belts and motor riders to also wear helmets at all times.
