Awoonor Drags SFO And AG To Court

A private legal practitioner, Ekow Awoonor has gone to court to challenge the findings of a Serious Fraud Office report on a project being developed by the Obotan Developers Limited. Mr Awoonor who has been recommended for prosecution for fraud and causing financial loss to the state says the SFO findings concerning him are false and cannot be substantiated.

Among many others, the SFO report, widely quoted in the media, described him as a promoter of the project who received $30,000 as legal advisor to the project.

The Obotan project is a proposed development of an exclusive residential area in Accra using a property purchased from CFAO as the nucleus.

SSNIT as shareholders of Obotan developers released about $2 million for the project which is the subject of the SFO investigations, following delays in the commencement of the project.

But Mr Awoonor who came over to JOY FM’s studios on Thursday to react to the media reports says he has never been a promoter of the project, insisting that his firm is only a solicitor to the company.

Mr Awoonor said the conclusion drawn by the SFO that he is one of the three promoters of the project is false. He also questioned the purported role of SSB Investments Limited, of which he is a board member in the said Obotan project. Mr Awoonor also denied portions of the SFO report that he received $30,000 as payment for his services.
