Flag bearer of the All People's Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga has disclosed that he is heading to Court in order to get his disqualification from the 2016 Presidential race overturned.
Dr. Ayariga’s hopes of leading the All People’s Congress to victory in the December polls hit a snag after the office of the Electoral Commission disqualified him on the grounds of endorsements of multiple parties by two of his subscribers.
He accused the Electoral Commission, headed by Mrs. Charlotte Osei as bias and promoting bi-partisan democracy in Ghana with her actions.
The flag bearer of the All People’s Congress stated that it was no fault of his if two of 432 subscribers endorsed other political parties since he did his bit of filling the form accurately and satisfied all the conditions.
‘’…Given that it is true that two subscribers had subscribed for other parties, what would’ve been the best thing to do? Should’ve drawn our attention, Mr. Ayariga we think that ignorantly some two people have signed for you and signed for other political parties. Please get us new subscribers, it is the subscribers we’re looking for...’’
Dr. Hassan Ayariga added that the Electoral Commission should have given his party notice for correction since it may have been unintentional.
‘’The essence of campaigning is for you to get political members from another party’’, he said.
The EC said it was unable to accept Dr. Ayariga’s nomination because the candidate did not provide evidence on his statutory declaration as to his hometown or residence in the constituency as per the legal requirements.
It also stated that, two subscribers to Dr. Ayariga’s nominations also subscribed for another presidential candidate, an act which is in breach of Regulation 7(4) of CI 94.
