Ayariga jabs Akufo-Addo over homosexuality comment

Founder and leader of All People Founder and leader of All People

Founder and leader of All People’s Congress (APC), Dr Hassan Ayariga, has taken a swipe at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over the latter’s ‘bound-to-happen’ position on homosexuality in Ghana.

The outspoken politician is the latest to add his voice to the numerous Ghanaians who found the president’s stance on homosexuality disgusting and distasteful.

President Akufo-Addo recently in an interview on the international news channel, Al Jazeera though said that homosexuality was not on his government’s agenda, he did not rule out the fact that it was bound to happen in the near future when groups start to demand for its legalisation.

However, at a press conference in Accra last week, the founder and leader of APC bemoaned the stance of President Akufo-Addo on homosexuality, describing it as “inhuman and barbaric.”

According to Dr Ayariga, the president should have been guided by the wisdom of his predecessors when they were confronted with the same situation.

He recalled during the regime of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, he [Kufuor] opposed gay conference that was supposed to be held in Ghana, so did the late President, Prof John Evans Fiifi Ata Mills, do when “these same men-women tested the late Professor Mills to legalise homosexuality in Ghana under pressure from British Prime Minister, David Cameron.”

He claimed that Prof Mills stood firm and rejected it, daring Cameron to take his Britain and his aid.

Dr Ayariga went on to say that former President John Dramani Mahama was also on record to have vehemently rejected the legalisation of homosexuality.

The stalwart politician was therefore, at loss as to why the obvious support for these gays by the current administration.

To this end, he called on all those transsexuals following the president to advise him properly and back off.

“This camouflage acceptance of the unnatural behaviour by our government has now threatened to destroy our society. The effects are beginning to manifest and we cannot sit down and allow it to happen,” he averred.

He pointed out that Ghana and the rest of the western world share so many values but there are certain things like homosexuality that the country cannot accept.

The president’s comment, according to him, had clearly given hope to those secret homosexuals in the country to thrive and expand their society.

“He [President Akufo-Addo] was virtually teaching them how to rap his government to help them acquire legal status. He has created a clear campaign platform for those already in homosexuality in the country to lure more youth into gay and other similar practices. No wonder some elements are thanking him in the social media and planning to embark on a march in Accra to show themselves; a clear response to the president’s advice to them. No wonder they have sent one of their colleagues to head one of the embassies in Ghana, and subsequently using the premises for gay meetings and activities,” he alleged.

The APC founder and leader said he expected the president to say no to the question of legalisation of homosexuality in Ghana.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo didn’t need to explain anything.

“Now, he recklessly landed our God-fearing country into the hands of the sausage jockeys. But we shall resist the oppressors rule. We will remind the president that his self-acclaimed human right activism does not extend to abnormal human rights! If his father had been a homosexual, he the president would not have been born to fight for back door bandits calling themselves human beings who do not know what normal human beings do,” he said.

“We need to point out to the president just as the Christian Council of Ghana has already told him that the issue of homosexuality is not only human rights issue but also a human existential and survival issue. We will not sit down and have our society dwindle by back door bandits who want to challenge the wisdom of God,” Dr Ayariga added.
