The National Democratic Congress has called on voters in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency to throw their weight behind Delali Kwasi Brempong, ahead of the by-election expected to take place on Thursday January 31.

Parading through the streets of Dzorwulu and Abelempke as part of a series of campaign to garner support, party executives and loyalists called on the public to vote out the NPP by voting massively for Delali Kwasi Brempong.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanaweb, the NDC’s aspirant said he was optimistic his message on security and welfare falls in line with the general needs of the people.

According to him, personal interaction with voters have indicated that the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency was ready for a change.

“It’s time to change for a new leadership to see to the security and welfare problems facing the people. Unemployment here is also high and very worrying. I am coming for the youth so the youth should get up and vote massively for me on January 31st.” he stressed.

On his part, the National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo said his party is confident that the constituency will not fall for any political gimmicks that will be used by the opposition.

“The NPP have become very jittery, so at dawn they started putting asphalt on portholes that have existed for years. This shows how desperate they are. But we know the people here will not fall for that.”

He also alleged that the NPP did not have a capable replacement for the late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Emmanuel Agyarko, hence the decision to impose Lydia Alhassan on the constituents.

“Yesterday in the tribute to the late Hon. Agarko, they said he was irreplaceable. That is because they don’t have anybody capable of replacing him but we are saying that we have a befitting and worthy substitute in the person of Delali Kwasi Brempong.”

This health walk is the third to have been held by the party in the constituency.

BACKGROUND

The Ayawaso West Wuogon seat became vacant following the death of Mr. Emmanuel Agyarko in November 2018 in the United States, where he had gone to seek medical treatment.

While the NPP has settled on madam Lydia Alhassan to retain the seat for the party, the ndc voted for its 2016 aspirant Delasi Kwasi Brempong to contest for the seat.

Also in the race are William Dowokpor of the Progressive People’s Party, (PPP) and Clement Boadi of the Liberal Party of Ghana.

The election is scheduled to take place on January 31, although there is a pending suit challenging the schedule.
