The Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) Caucus in Parliament has served notice that they will continue to stage series of protest march against violence unleashed on innocent citizens by masked security men during the by-election in Ayawaso West Wuogon (AWW) constituency until the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo acts.

To them, until a national inquiry is commissioned and the perpetrators including the masked cowards and bloodthirsty hoodlums are brought to justice, they will continue with their planned activities.

“We shall continue to demand concrete action no matter how long and how hard our quest shall be. The Minority holds President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as Commander-in-Chief and Chairman of the National Security Council fully responsible for the 31st January bloodbath, especially when his Minister of State for National Security, Mr. Bryan Acheampong has publicly admitted that National Security under the Chairmanship of President Akufo-Addo deployed and supervised the broad daylight barbarism on the very Ghanaians President Akufo-Addo elected to post”, the group noted in a statement read out by the Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Mubarak-Muntaka.

They made this known when they petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu at the Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service.

The Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, COP Alex Mensah received the petition on behalf of the NDC group.

This follows their peaceful march from the Parliament of Ghana to the Police Headquarters in protest of the violence that happened in Ayawaso West Wuogon on January 31, 2019.

They had earlier walked out of Parliament prior to the swearing-in of the MP-elect for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, after making their intentions known to the Speaker that they won’t be part of the swearing-in process.

“As legislators, we do not only condemn the despicable terror of the last Thursday, we are also resoled to rise up to our obligation under Article 41(b) that calls on every citizen “to uphold and defend this Constitution and the law”. To this end therefore, we reiterate our refusal to recognize the illegitimate winner of that bloody by-election as declared by the incompetent and complicit Electoral Commission”, they averred.
