New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Effiduase-Asokore constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie has organized a two-day health screening exercise for officers at regional headquarters of the Ghana National Fire Service Station in Tema.
The exercise was in collaboration with some doctors and staff from st Johns hospital and fertility center
Mr Samuel Ampoh of St John Government Hospital told GhanaNewsPage.Com that, the health screening was aimed at ensuring that fire officers remain healthy.
“We are doing it for free, it is for all the fire officers. It’s a free screening we are doing for them. As I said it’s part of our cooperate social responsibilities so all the cost is on St John Hospital and Fertility Centre.
The exercise which was the first of its kind, saw fire officers both old and new trooping to the screening centres with a recorded attendance of over 900 officers.
The beneficiaries were screened of various indicators like blood sugar, ECG which checks the work rate of the heart, blood pressure, eye tests, among other disease at the their station in Tema.
Some of the beneficiaries (Fire Service Officer) were referred to St John’s Hospital in Accra for further treatment.
Mr Samuel Ampoh further said the exercise which will ensure good health to the people remained a priority to Ayew Afriyie not as a lawmaker and but board chairman of the St John Hospital.
“Hon Ayew Afriyie is the board chairman of the hospital so he oversees all the activities of the hospital. He’s not doing it as a Member of Parliament. He is part of us as a team member of St John and fertility centre.
“Tomorrow we will come back and then complete it. Next week too we would be in the Tantra Community for another health screening. That one will be for the general public,” he said.
He added that, the MP and Board Chairman of the St John Hospital is concerned about their health and asked them to undertake regular medical check-ups and consult health professionals.
