Ayisi-Boateng ignored Mahama in S.A. – Nketia

Ghana Ghana

Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, George Ayisi-Boateng, recently failed to welcome former President John Dramani Mahama when the ex-leader was on an official trip to that country, Johnson Asideu Nketia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said.

According to him, that action reinforces a comment made by Mr Ayisi-Boateng last year that NPP members are his topmost priority as High Commissioner.

He suffered a lot of flak for his comment and later apologised for it.

However, speaking to Obeng Mensah, sit-in host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM on Thursday, 4 January, Mr Nketia said the apology rendered by Mr Ayisi-Boateng was cosmetic since he ignored Mr Mahama in South Africa.

“Recently, former President Mahama wrote to Mr Ayisi-Boateng that he was travelling to South Africa, and, so, he will want to meet him, but Ayisi-Boateng failed to respond to the letter, he did not respond to Mr Mahama and also failed to meet him. The Secretary to the former president can cofirm this,” Mr Asiedu Nketia claimed.

“And, so, for me, I think the apology Mr Ayisi-Boateng rendered was not enough, he should have resigned, that was what we called for but the President asked him to continue working.”
