B/A NPP Supports Obiri Boahen's Nomination

SpaceFM, Sunyani, July 21- The Brong Ahafo Regional Office of the NPP, has expressed overwhelming support for the nomination of Nana Obiri Boahen, a legal practitione, as minister of state at the Ministry of Interior by President J.A. Kuffour.

"The president in nominating Nana Obiri Boahen, the regional Chairman of our great party, had carefully considered his impeccable legal credentials, his role in seeking peace at Dagbon, his leadership in the bar among others and had come to a decision that Nana will never compromise the security of the nation", the party said in statement signed by the first Regional Vice Chairman, Adu Gyan Kwasi and the Regional Secretary, A.K. Kusi, to the press in Sunyani on saturday.

The statement reminded the NDC that it is the winning party that forms government in all democractic nations and that members of the excutive are mostly party activists just as in the legislature.

The NDC has in the past week been questioning the legality of Nana Obiri Boahen holding two key positions as chairman of the Brong Ahafo regional NPP and minister of state at the Interior Ministry .

But the NPP argues that a former Brong Ahafo regional minister was at the time the NDC chairman as well as MP for Techiman North. Again former president Rawlings was still a founder of the NDC when he assumed office as president of the republic of Ghana, yet the people of Ghana saw him as the leader of the whole country and not as leader of only the NDC. The statement said Nana Obiri Boahen has in all instances exhibited a greater sense of wisdom, knowledge of the law and more importantly, professionalism and patriotism.

In view of these, the party believes the nominee would therefore not compromise on the security of the nation when given the mandate as minister at the Interior. The statement further asked the NDC in parliament to channel their energy in legislating, proposing alternative solutions to the nation's problems in the area of poverty reduction, human resource development, good and transparent government.
