BNI arrests officials of Melcom Group

Some management staff members of the Melcom Group of Companies were yesterday picked up by some security personnel believed to be from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

The personnel, who raided the head office of the company around 1p.m., confiscated some computers.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Director of Communications of the Melcom Group of Companies, Mr Godwin Avenorgbo, said the personnel, who were in mufti, halted all activities during the operations.

“They just came giving orders and asking where the Information Technology Department was and they picked some of our computers. This is strange,” he said.

Mr Avenorgbo could not immediately tell the number of security personnel that undertook the operation but recalled that they arrested one of the company’s general managing directors and an operations manager.

He said no information was also given as to why the staff members were arrested, saying “they were picked up without the security personnel relaying any information to us. They just told us they would communicate back to us when they get to their destination.”

He said the managing director and some staff members at the administration had to go home because they had no computers to work with but said the shops were still open for business.
