BNI officer’s murder: Mankessim chief, queen mother spend Christmas and New Year in custody

Following the murder of an officer with the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) earlier this month, the Paramount Chief of Mankessim and the Queen Mother have been remanded in police custody and will as such spend the Christmas and New Year in there.

The two suspects who volunteered statements to the police following the incident, were officially arrested put before the Saltpond District court presided over by Her worship Patience Ablorh and remanded to reappear on the 8th January, 2020.

Paramount Chief And Queen Mother of Mankessim Traditional Council, Nana Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI and Nana Ama Amissah III have since been police custody awaiting the next court date.

Briefing the media, Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Irene Oppong disclosed that the Regional Police Command arrested and detained Nana Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI and Nana Ama Amissah III to assist with investigations leading to the death of late Samuel Ampofo, the BNI officer and one other.

It would be recalled that an outdooring of a queen mother, Nana Otua, turned bloody when the BNI officer, Samuel Ampofo and a civilian were shot dead by some unknown assailants during a procession.

Five persons were arrested and another later, bringing the number of suspects to six.

The Regional Police Command has picked three additional suspects in connection with the shooting incident which also injured seven other persons. In all the police has nine suspects who are assisting with investigations.
