The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bekwai Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Joe Osei-Owusu, has accused the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) of planting a profile document of STL workers in their report.
The BNI operatives in their operational report indicated that they found a profile document of STL workers in the possession of the S.A ex-Policemen who were training the security detail of the NPP’s flagbearer, Nana Addo.
Asked if it was necessary for the ex-policemen to have in their possession profile document of STL workers on Ultimate breakfast show hosted by Prince Minkah, he said, ‘I don’t know about that, they themselves they were blank when they were asked, the information we are getting is that the BNI planted that’.
Osei-Owusu accused the BNI operatives of being good at creating charges.
‘The BNI has stated that STL is involved in transmission of election results, did we know that before then, the EC had denied this all the time, isn’t that ironic,’ he asked.
According to him, if NPP wanted a profile of STL workers, they would not have put it on the ex-policemen’s database.
He said the BNI goofed in making public the report on the operations of the S.A e-Policemen.
‘You see, usually when security people want to go to the bottom of the matter, they don’t go talking to the press, they investigate, truly if they believe that there are threats to security, they won’t even have picked them now, they would have followed through to see what they intend to do, but all this is just political propaganda, this is not new to us,’ he explained.
The MP for Bekwai urged the BNI to be truthful with Ghanaians by telling them the type of equipment retrieved when the S.A ex-policemen were picked up.
‘The equipment they brought into the country went through customs checks, they paid duty fees. Akufo-Addo is trying to take charge of the personal security of our leaders. What we are doing is bringing in expertise to train our security force for crowd control and turbulence,’ he stated.
