Kumasi, Feb. 2, GNA - Emmanuel Ampate, 27, who claims to be the Business and Development Executive of Kumasi-based BOSS FM, is in the grips of the law for alleged rape.
Management of the station, however, denies knowledge of the suspect. The suspect was said to have sexually assaulted a 23-year- old lady at his Ahodwo residence, near Sir Max Hotel. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwaku Amoako, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the Police Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), told newsmen that the incident happened at 1845 hours on December 15, last year.
He said the victim was invited by the suspect to watch Television in his room and in the process Ampate grabbed her by the arm, pulled her towards his bed and started removing her panties. All attempts by the victim to persuade him to stop failed compelling her to remove her hair clip to hit him in self defence. The victim also picked a mirror and smashed Ampate on his head and use= d a broken piece to stab him.
DSP Amoako said Ampate eventually overpowered the lady and raped her. She made a formal report to the Asokwa police, where she was given a police form for medical examination and treatment. The DOVVSU Regional Co-ordinator said Ampate went into hiding after th= e crime and was arrested on Friday, January 21. He has since been granted police bail to receive treatment for his wounds while the docket was sent to the Attorney-General's Department for advice.
