The Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Limited Company dazzled again at the Middle East and Africa Energy Awards held in Dubai at the plush Al-Khoory Gardens.
The company was adjudged the Energy Company of the Year- Sub-Saharan Africa and the winner of the prestigious Excellence in Energy Storage Solutions award.
Dr. Edwin Alfred Provencal, the Managing Director, was also named the distinguished Energy Leader of the Year.
Among other recognitions, the Gold for Oil policy, in which BOST plays a major role as the off-taker, was also adjudged the most Innovative Energy deal of the year. In all, the company and its Managing Director bagged four awards at the event on October 17, 2024, in faraway Dubai.
In his speech for the night after being unveiled as the front-page personality of the Energy Governance Magazine for his innovative leadership in the energy sector of Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa, Dr Provencal remarked that the energy space of Africa in the coming years would be challenging and exciting at the same time.
He said that with a population of over 1.2 billion people, 600 million of whom lack access to electricity, the continent of Africa, in the wake of the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement, should be the target destination of innovative energy companies and investors in the coming years.
He further remarked that, as much as the energy transition is in motion, there is a need to invest in developing the requisite infrastructure for the storage and transportation of the transition fuel for Africa.
According to Dr. Provencal, the liquid fuels will most likely stay with Africa for the next 20 to 50 years. Therefore, the continent is to milk the resources discovered in this area to fund the transition and movement towards cleaner and more sustainable fuels.
He congratulated the board, management, and staff of Bulk Energy Storage and Transportation Limited for their continuous dedication and hard work, which has seen the company turn from a loss-making entity a few years back into a profitable and efficiently run state-owned enterprise.
