Road accidents have become one of the leading causes of deaths in Ghana.
Government always tried to reduce road accidents through road safety awareness and education.
Although it has helped in someways, the menace has not totally been curbed because of the increasingly poor roads in areas such as Assin Central, where Hon Kennedy Agyapong, the outspoken New Patriotic Party activist is an MP.
The NPP Member of Parliament has bemoaned how bad roads have led to some avoidable tragedies in his constituency this festive period.
“I am worried about the bad road network in my constituency which is killing travellers,” he said
Peace FM’s reporter, Oscar Adawudu reports that the NPP guru who has embarked on massive developmental projects within the constituency, accuses government of neglecting its responsibilities by overlooking the road network in his catchment area.
“Just potholes and the municipal assembly is failing to address that...perhaps they are waiting for more people to die before,” the MP lamented.
According to him, he had wanted to fix the poor road network by himself, "but they told me to hold on since the government intends to reconstruct the bad roads, yet till date, nothing has been done. This shouldn’t be politicized. We can’t lose innocent lives because of politics.”
