Ban on sale of axes and knives on streets

Accra, Aug. 14, GNA - The Ghana Police Service on Monday announced that they have banned the sale and distribution of small size axes and jack knives on the streets since they were easily accessed by criminals and used to attack innocent people.

In a statement signed in Accra by the Director, Public Relations, Superintendent of Police, Mr David Eklu said importers and distributors of those weapons were required to hand over their stocks to the Police. The statement said the Accra Regional Police Command had over the weekend seized more than 20 of those axes, which were in different colours and were being sold near the National Theatre and the TUC Traffic Lights in Accra.

It said the Police was holding discussions with the Ghana United Traders Association (GUTA) and other related agencies on how to regulate the sale and distribution of the weapons until that their sale and distribution was prohibited until further notice.
