Banks Urged To Assist Vocational Institutions

Suhum,(Eastern Region) 29, Sept. Mrs Celestine Bayor, Director of the Department of Community Development (DCD), has appealed to financial institutions to assist products of vocational institutions to set up their own businesses. Mrs Bayor who made the appeal at the end of a ten-day capacity- building workshop for 84 tutors of women's training institutes under DCD at Suhum, said this would help them to become self-supporting. She commended the Civil Service whose survey identified lack of access to financial assistance as a major problem facing products of women training institutes. She praised the participants for their high sense of discipline and comportment during the workshop and called on them to impart the knowledge they have acquired to their students. Miss Victoria Brimah, headmistress of the Suhum Women's Training Institute said intake at the school increased from 45 last year to 173 this year adding that all the 63 candidates presented for the NVTI Certificate Examination last year, were successful. She commended the Indian High Commission and the Suhum-Kraboa- Coaltar District Assembly for their assistance to the institute.
