Kumasi, April 26, GNA - Dr Richard Anane, Minister of Roads and Transport and Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, has instituted a scholarship scheme for needy but brilliant students and pupils in the Bantama constituency.
The scheme is being financed through his share of the common fund. Dr Anane announced this on Sunday while presenting scholarship packages totalling 39.2 million cedis to 43 students and pupils in the constituency to the tune of 39.2 million cedis in Kumasi. He said the scheme would help ease the burden off some parents who would be unable to pay their ward's school fees and advised the beneficiaries to study hard.
He said more students and pupils would be catered for in the future if the scheme proved successful.
Mr Frederick Fredua Anto, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional chairman, urged parents to support their wards to enable them attain higher academic laurels. He also advised the beneficiaries to study hard to enable them succeed in life.
Mr George Kofi Agyei, NPP chairman for the Bantama constituency, said the government had committed itself to the development of education, this he said, was evidenced in the provision of school blocks, furniture, books and other teaching and learning materials to the various communities.
