Bantamahene calls for peaceful election

Kumasi, Sept. 16, GNA-Baffour Asaare Owusu Amankwatia V, Bantamahene, has added his voice to the call on Ghanaians to use this year's elections as a test case to demonstrate their political maturity for other countries to emulate. He expressed regret that elections in some countries in recent times had been marred with chaos and violence, thereby derailing development. Baffour Amankwatia made the call when a delegation of Add Your Voice Now, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) championing the cause of Malaria eradication and peace-building in the country, called on him at his palace in Kumasi on Monday. He said as Ghana entered another era in the democratic development, there was the need for Ghanaians to champion the cause of unity to ensure the sustainability and the development of her young democracy.

Baffour Amankwatia asked the electorate as well as leaders of political parties to exhibit a high level of tolerance before, during and after the elections. Touching on other issues, he advised nursing mothers to embrace the idea of using the treated mosquito nets to protect their children from the disease. Mr. Kwabena Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive of Add Your Voice Now, who led the delegation, called on political parties to preach the message to combat malaria when they mounted platforms.
