Barber Held For Rape

Kumasi, (Ashanti Region) 15 Oct. A 20-year-old Barber at Daban, near Kumasi, Kofi Ampadu was today remanded in custody for a week when he appeared before the Kumasi Circuit Tribunal for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl. Ampadu's plea was not taken and will re-appear on Monday, October 20. Police Chief Inspector Nicholas Darkwa, Prosecuting, told the tribunal chaired by Mr. R.C.A. Azumah that the victim lives in the same area as Ampadu. On Friday, October 10, this year, she was returning home after her normal sales rounds when Ampadu saw and beckoned her to come for him to buy some of the meat pie she was selling. When she went, the accused lured her into a wooden structure and raped her. Janet reported the incident to her parents immediately. In another case, the tribunal granted three million cedis bail each to two accused persons who appeared before it for allegedly stealing two articulator tyres valued at 1.4 million cedis and two rims also valued at 300,000 cedis, property of Mr. Imrana Tankoh, a transport owner. Clement Nagodi, a watchman and Isaac Ayeebo, a labourer pleaded not guilty to the charges. They will re-appear on Monday, October 20.
