Social activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor has rendered an apology to the Appointments Committee of Parliament for a post he made on social media which members of the committee view to be an attack on their reputation.
In his apology, Barker-Vormawor, who is also a legal practitioner, clarified that his post was not meant to denigrate the committee or accuse its members of engaging in corrupt practices.
“Mr. Chairman, I am saying here clearly that my post was not intended to disparage members of the committee and I have not intended to say that members of this committee have received or demanded bribes from various individuals. At no point was my statement intended to communicate same and for those reasons I apologise," he apologised.
Earlier, counsel for Barker-Vormawor, Nana Ato Dadzie, stated that the claim made by his client was not directed at the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
Appearing before the 11-member committee on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, following a summons, Nana Ato Dadzie described Barker-Vormawor’s bribery allegations as an ‘act of whistleblowing.’
He explained that his client intended to uncover and shed light on matters he had been informed about, where certain members of the committee were allegedly receiving bribes.
“It was completely not directed at the Appointments Committee. It was only intended to expose certain matters that had come to his notice which alleged some people were apparently on the banner of the Appointments Committee, doing other acts,” he said.
