The Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Malik Basintale has presented a 'Certificate of Survival' to Ghanaians on behalf of the party for enduring eight years of governance under the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

The certificate presented to Ghanaians is in “recognition of the strength of the citizenry and resilience under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia led government and for navigating through adversity with courage and determination”, an inscription on the certificate reads.

This comes in fulfillment of the promise he made before the 2024 general elections regarding the economy and governance in the country.

In an interview on TV3 on November 27, 2024, Malik Basintale, commiserating with Ghanaians for enduring the harsh economic challenges, promised to award them a certificate in recognition of their resilience.

He explained that the certificate will serve as a recognition for Ghanaians who have persevered despite the heavy burden of taxes.

“I sit here and I feel the plight of many people who can't even afford three square meals a day. I sit here and feel sad for someone whose salary has already been consumed even before the next payday all because of the high cost of living, paying transport fares, and rent and he thinks that hopefully by next year as a result of the government’s incompetence, cluelessness, insensitivity and huge tax burden that has been brought on the people of this country, they will be paying 5% VAT rate on transport fares, taxes on virtually everything.”

He added, “We would award and issue every Ghanaian youth a certificate of survival for four years under these unbearable hardships. Every Ghanaian deserves at least a certificate of how he or she survived under this economy.”
