Bature jabs Mrs. Rawlings: "You are more corrupt"

Managing Editor of the Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Iddrisu Bature has labeled former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings as corrupt for accusing leadership of the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC] of doing little to rid the party of “corruption and thievery."

According to him, Mrs. Rawlings should have counseled her husband [former President John Jerry Rawlings] to curtail the corruption canker that flooded his administration then.

In a telephone interview with Adom FM on Wednesday, the former first lady lamented that the signs of mishandling by the Mahama-led government were obvious, and that is why Ghana had gone to the International Monetary Fund [IMF] for a bailout.

“No country goes to the IMF when you are doing well; if you are doing well, you won't go to the IMF. It is when you are collapsing that you go to the IMF,” she said.

Again, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP) marvels why a country like Ghana, which opted for the Highly Indebted Poor Country [HIPC] initiative and later came out successfully under the Kufuor regime, would suddenly descend into the ditch.

However, Alhaji Bature [NDC well-wisher] who was a panelist on the same radio station's morning show descended heavily on Nana Konadu for her hypocritical comments.

He alleged that, Mrs. Rawlings acquired almost all her properties when her husband was the ruler of the nation.

According to him, the president of the 31st December Women’s Movement [DWM] took the opportunity of her husband's junta to loot the state.

“All she has now is from the state,” he claims.

Nonetheless, his comment triggered the Communications Director of the National Democratic Party [NDP], Ernest Owusu Bempah to call in the live program to demystify Bature’s assertion.

He however dared Bature to justify his claims or face the wrath of him on any platform after alleging Bature has been banned from entering Togo for reasons he [Owusu Bempah] said will be revealed soon.
