Bawku NPP elections nullified

Bawku (U/E) Feb.16, GNA- The elections of the constituency executives and polling station chairmen for the Bawku central branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been nullified by the National Executive.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Nana Ohene-Ntow and addressed to the regional chairman, Alhaji Abdulai Bawa, said the decision was arrived at due to the lack of unity among the old and new executives.

" In view of the continuing impasse and litigation over the purported elections held on 12th and 14th December 2005, the National Executive has been left with no option than to nullify it," it added. The statement added that the regional executive committee has been charged to resolve any outstanding issues and based on a satisfactory resolution, fresh elections would be organised within one month, which would be supervised by a National Officer.

In December last year, a 46-year-old UK-based businessman, Mr. Abdul-Malik Imoro Salifu, was elected as the constituency chairman, which was boycotted by the incumbent executive, led by Mr. Awudu Gumah. Mr. Gumah later filed a suit at the Bolgatanga circuit court against the regional chairman and 7 regional officers for conducting the elections in which he averred that it was null and void and has no legal standings.
