Bawku West District supply uniforms to school children

Zebilla (UE), Sept. 23, GNA - The Bawku West District in the Upper East Region, on Thursday presented 277 school uniforms and 480 drinking cups to Atarikom and Tilli primary schools in Zebilla, during the celebration of 'My First Day at School'. The presentation was part of the Presidential Initiative on the compulsory basic school concept, which is being implemented to promote quality education in the country. Presenting the items, the District Chief Executive Mr Adam Moro Anabah noted that the offer was to encourage and motivate children of school going age to cultivate the habit of enrolling and staying in school. Mr Anabah made a personal donation of 580 exercise books to the Tilli Primary school to enhance quality teaching and learning in the academic facility, saying the development of education in the area is his priority. He cautioned parents to be conversant with the assembly's bye-laws in order to initiate procedures to prosecute people who refuse to send their children to school. He asked the people to avail themselves of the upcoming population census, explaining that is through the exercise that government would get the necessary data to implement developmental projects. The sub- chief of Gbere, Naba Mark Abugudago called on the assembly to provide the area with portable water and a public toilet. The Presiding Member of the area, Mr Moses Adukpam noted that education is the only tool that could help elevate the district from poverty, hence the need for parents to make the education of their children especially the girl-child a priority.
