Bawku at standstill as Hawa's body arrives

Bawku (U/E), May 4, (Koranteng) GNA - Bawku township virtually came to a standstill as the body of the late Hawa Yakubu was being conveyed to her hometown, Pusiga. Both the aged and young onlookers gathered along the principal street, right from the outskirts of the town through to Sabon Geri, a suburb of Bawku.

The body arrived at exactly 0625 hours at a time for the Islamic evening prayers, but sympathisers defy this in order to pay their last respect.

Apprehension nearly set in when word went round that the plane carrying the body could not land at the Paga airstrip due to a technical hitch and have to fly over to the Tamale airport. Earlier on, the town was full of posters pasted on trees along the streets and on most vehicles as well as T-shirts that were used in her campaigns in the 2004 elections and for the funeral. It was heart chilling sight when the body finally arrived at Pusiga, where both the young and old were seen wailing uncontrollably. A lady believed to be in her mid forties died on the spot whilst on her way to the funeral grounds when her motor cycle was involved in an accident.
