Bawku is clam

Bawku (U/E), Jan. 3, GNA - "The people of Bawku on Thursday woke up in peace and are going about their normal duties without any problems", Mr Ephraim Okoh Brakatu, Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations in the Three Northern Regions, told the GNA.

He said Security Personnel patrolled the Bawku Municipality throughout Wednesday night and were still on the alert at all vantage areas in the town Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Bawku, Mr Brakatu commended the Security Personnel for working hard and said he was satisfied with their performance adding that they were expecting reinforcement on Thursday.

He said normal business had been affected since the beginning of the violence on Monday adding that the aim of the Security Personnel was to put in their best to maintain peace and order that would encourage the people to relax and carry on with their normal duties. Mr Brakatu appealed to the people to cooperate with the Security Personnel to enable them to work efficiently to maintain lasting peace. He called on them to put away their weapons, avoid provoking each other, and to report to the Police, persons who persisted in fighting or causing other problems that could lead to hurting others. He said 11 people in Police custody would be put before the Bolgatanga High Court and charged for possessing unlicensed weapons and damaging a Police vehicle.
