The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it is shocked the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has been dragged into the alleged biometric verification of vice presidential candidate of the party Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Deputy Director of Communications of the party, Anthony Abayiba Karbo stated that it beats the imagination of the party that a body that is mandated to take charge of criminal issues, has decided to delve into an matters that have no criminal connotation.

“I can’t think far Kwame. Dr. Bawumia is not a criminal and the three-member committee empanelled by the Electoral Commission (EC) to investigate the matter has come out with its report and vindicated him”, he disclosed on Abusua Nkomo hosted by Kwame Adinkra.

He questioned why the CID will still be pursuing the matter when the body which has oversight responsibility of the process of which Dr. Bawumia was accused of breaching cleared him.

“There is no criminal connotation in the issue. Why will the CID be going into the issue when he has not breached any law? Be as it may, Dr. Bawumia is least worried about what is ongoing because he knows there is no truth”, he said.

Karbo believes it part of a grand scheme by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to gag Dr. Bawumia from speaking about the mismanagement of the economy which is evident to most Ghanaians.
