Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, on Friday cut sod to commence the drilling of four mechanised boreholes for the residents of Nsawam/Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region.
According to Dr Bawumia, the NPP took the decision to provide portable water for the residents of Nsawam/Adoagyiri due to the acute water shortage that has hit the area following the drying up of the Densu River.
The project which is being undertaken by the Excellence and Professional Drilling Services is expected to be completed in the next two weeks to provide portable water for the residents, whereas two will be sited in the Zongo community while the other two will be in the Adoagyiri township.
Dr Bawumia, addressing the gathering of chiefs and the Zongo community at the forecourt of the Adoagyiri Zongo mosque, hinted that the NPP, led by their flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, think of Ghanaians and that when they heard about the water shortage in the area, they decided to drill the four boreholes for the municipality.
According to Dr Bawumia, the Kufuor administration worked on the first phase of the water treatment plant in the area and that the ruling NDC government was expected to work on the second phase to solve the situation to avoid acute shortage of water but due to their negligence and bad leadership, they failed to work on it.
Dr Bawumia, who was accompanied by some Eastern Regional Executives of the NPP, before paying a courtesy call on the Adoagyiri Chief, Nana Okoanadwo Effutu Dompreh II, visited the Ghana Water Company Limited. He also visited the Adoagyiri central mosque to offer the Friday prayers before addressing the gathering.
The running mate of Nana Akufo-Addo further introduced the Geologist, Emmanuel Nti, from the E&P Drilling Services to the gathering as the contractor who would drill the boreholes.

He said the Geologist had already settled on the areas to drill the boreholes, adding that the work which commenced on Friday was expected to be completed in the next two weeks.
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who was given a rousing welcome at Adoagyiri Zongo, appealed to the residents to cast their votes for the NPP in the November polls.
The chief of Adoagyiri, Nana Effutu Dompreh II, commended the New Patriotic Party for the kind gesture.
The chief, who was a friend to Dr Bawumia in Canada, poured libation to offer prayers and solicit support from the ancestors for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to win the November polls.
