Bawumia has no solid grounding in economics- Fiifi Kwetey

A Deputy Finance Minister, Fiifi Kwetey, has taken a swipe at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia saying “he hasn't got real solid grounding in economics”.

He insisted that Dr. Bawumia's performance at the Bank of Ghana exposed his inefficiency and became evident that he lacks “practical grounding” as far as prudent management of the economy is concerned.

The minister fired the salvos when responding to Dr. Bawumia's earlier comment which suggested that the NDC administration was shifting blame for the bad state of the economy; on an Accra based radio station on Thursday.

Mr. Kwatey further dismissed claims that the NDC government was managing the economy with text books, and stressed that Dr. Bawumia's assertion was mere political propaganda.

It was in this direction that he said the stability of the cedi in recent weeks is an indication that the managers of the economy are efficient, focus and industrious.

“... [Ask Dr. Bawumia] whether what is happening to the cedi today which is a currency that has regained its strength, a currency that is appreciating vis-a-vis the dollar given international confidence to the domestic operators of the economy; whether that is not the mark of a group that clearly knows how to handle the most difficult problems”, the minister added.
