Minister of State at the office of the President in Charge of Private Sector Development and Public Private Partnership and Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa Central Mr. Rashid Pelpuo has accused the running mate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia of being disingenuous.
He indicates that Dr. Bawumia’s swift response to the plight of the of pupils of Kperisi Primary School in the Upper West Region as though nothing was being done to ameliorate the plight of the school is by government, is a mark of desperation.
“He should have used his position as a member of the opposition party to check if government is not doing anything about the plight of the children rather than going to the place with the media to make political gain out of it”, he observed.
He denied that government and the assembly was indifferent to the plight of the pupils stating that furniture at the time of Dr. Bawumia’s visit were being constructed for the pupils after the ones that had been supplied them broke down sometime back.
Speaking to Prince Minkah on the Ultimate Breakfast Show, the minister disclosed that members of the community use the school as their meeting venue which is why most of the chairs broke down.
Mr. Pelpuo disclosed that about 400 dual desks are currently ready to be delivered to the school today February 29, 2016 indicating the time for delivery of the seats had been delayed because of the cumbersome procurement processes.
“I appreciate the genuine frustration of the headmistress of the school. She owes no one an apology because they are the kind of persons we need but that does not mean nothing was being done”, he added.
Media reports earlier last week highlighted the plight of the pupils in the school who are on a daily basis forced to lie prostrate on the bare floor to write due to the unavailability of furniture.
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Vice Presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia subsequently visited the school and promised to provide them with desks for 500 pupils of the school.
But the MP for the area indicates that his gesture is borne out of malice and not genuine considering the fact that a contractor was working to get the issue resolved and all he needed to do was crosscheck before going to make political gain out of it.
