Bawumia’s promises paint a picture of a leader who will stay in power for 50 years – Analyst

Samuel Boateng, a political analyst, has raised concerns over the several promises made by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He opined that a four-year term is not enough to deliver on all the promises he has made.

The analyst said the promises he made and those of other politicians paint a picture as if they were voted into office for a 50-year term.

He emphasized that a four-year mandate is insufficient for political leaders like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and his opponents to fulfill their promises.

Mr. Boateng suggests that after making promises and winning power, Ghanaians may find it challenging to fulfill some of these promises.

“There are too many promises, and I keep wondering if they can keep them. The mandate is for four years, not fifty. So the promises are excessive and cannot be fulfilled in four years. When they make promises and gain power, they will tell us what they can and cannot do. He stated that it would have been prudent for Dr. Bawumia to review the record of this government, identify the different major schemes that could not be achieved, and base the manifesto on them.

“I wish Dr. Bawumia had analysed this administration’s performance and highlighted all of the key policies that were not carried out. You were successful in implementing the free SHS program, but it faces various challenges, which your manifesto should have addressed and suggested measures to resolve in order to improve it. What is the status of the one-district one-factory initiative? I also didn’t hear anything about the Planting for Food and Jobs campaign. Is it true that Dr. Bawumia believes that these policies are unnecessary?

"I would stress that the two major political parties, the NDC and NPP, should be measured in their promises. It is a four-year term, not 50 years. I don’t see the need why they would want to make over 200 promises and yet, when they assume office, they are unable to do them.”
