The Tema East Constituency chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nene Ofoe Teye-Chu Agbadiagba lV, has said that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s promise to fight deviant sexual behaviour in the country if he becomes President can be believed.

In an interview, Nene Agbadiagba pointed out that the Vice President can be trusted to do so because he himself has been astute in his personal morality.

“Of all Presidents and Vice Presidents that we have had in the Fourth Republic, only Dr. Bawumia is the man that nobody has, or can associate any form of sexual immorality with,” Nene said.

He adds that “unlike his predecessor John Mahama, you can also not associate any form of gay or lesbian entanglement with Dr. Bawumia.”
Nene therefore added confidently that, “if he says he will fight deviant sexual immorality, it is something that can be totally believed.” The Tema East NPP Chairman was speaking on the sidelines of the 2024 celebration of the annual Ada Asafotufiami, in Big Ada, in the Greater Accra region.

Nene’s response comes in the wake of Vice President Bawumia promising the Chiefs and people of Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo, and Asuogyaman, all in the Eastern Region that he will use his presidency to work to preserve Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

According to the Vice President, as part of this cultural preservation, his government will fight deviant sexual behaviours.

“Our cultural norms and beliefs have largely stood the test of time, and a Bawumia Presidency will work to preserve the good while helping to reform the others.

“During engagements with the chiefs and people in the Asuogyaman, Lower Manya and Yilo Krobo constituencies yesterday, I assured of my future government's greater collaboration with traditional authorities to work against the ills of society, including the menace of deviant sexual behaviour,” Dr. Bawumia said.

According to Nene Ofoe Teye-Chu Agbadiagba lV, Dr. Bawumia’s main opponent, John Mahama cannot be trusted to say and do the same.

“His links with Andrew Solomon, the famous American gay lobbyist is well documented; he can’t be trusted to say and commit to such moral standards,” Nene concluded.
