Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, says Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has been given the room to get away with factual blunders on issues related to the management of the economy.

He said the Vice President all in the name of competent economic management is doing what can best be described as “academic somersaulting” with facts.

“We have allowed Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the Vice President of the Republic in the name of competent economic management to get away with what can best be described as some academic somersaulting of the facts, in terms of the management of the economy.”

Mr Iddrisu made this statement yesterday, September 23, 2019 during the inauguration of NDC’s 2020 Manifesto Committee at the party’s head office in Accra.

Buttressing his statement, the NDC MP referred to a recent statement by the Vice President announcing the achievement of stable economic growth as a result of the competent management by the current government.

“Only yesterday, he said (the Vice President) they have achieved economic growth thanks to competent economic management.”

But challenging the Vice President's claim, the Minority Leader said the achieved economic growth is as a result of investments made by the government of former President John Dramani Mahama in the energy sector which he says is the key driver of the growth of the economy for the 2017-2019 period.

He added that the current economic growth is not due to the competence of the NPP government but the “wisdom and investments of John Mahama particularly in the petroleum sector which contributed 69.2% to the growth achieved in 2017 at the end of the year.”

The Minority Leader challenged the Vice President to present evidence contrary to his assertion.
