Nana Akufo-Addo has tipped his running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become the most successful vice president of Ghana if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) wins the 2016 elections.
The former deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana has paired with Akufo-Addo since 2008 in presidential elections, but has failed to win the heart of Ghanaians.
The duo lost to the John Evans Atta Mills – John Mahama and Mahama – Kwesi Amissah-Arthur tickets in the 2008 and 2012 general elections respectively, and is once again going against the latter ticket.
Akufo-Addo said he has no doubt his running mate will beat all vice presidents in Ghana due to his rich background as an economist.
“Bawumia will prove to be the most successful in our history as head of the economic management committee if we win,” Nana Addo told host of Good Evening Ghana Paul Adom Otchere.
According to the former foreign affairs minister, Dr Bawumia has developed with time in politics and the solid relationship which exists between them will help Ghana in general once elected to power.
“My relationship with my running mate gives me a lot of confidence for the future,” Nana Addo added.
On the economy, he said Ghana needs the New Patriotic Party (NPP) badly because the country is “going backwards… the economy was doing well when Kufuor left. He put up 6-unit classroom block for GHC85,000 but today it cost GHC350,0000.
“There are evidence of waste, corruption and incompetence. We can’t run this country on propaganda… We’ll look at the Public Procurement Law if we win… the general rule is that there has to be competitive bidding and majority of our public transactions did not go through bidding.”
