Former Chief of Staff Mr. Douglas Prosper Bani on June 19 interacted with pupils of Our Lady of Assumption Roman Catholic School at Tantra Hill a suburb of Accra, as part of Citizenship Week celebration.
Citizenship Week Celebration forms part of the annual constitution week activities organized by the National Commission for Civil Education (NCCE) across the country.
It also creates the platform for people in leadership positions who are seen as a role model to interact and impact virtues to pupils in basic schools in Ghana.
Speaking on the theme, A Clean Ghana, Our Responsibility, the former Interior Minister calls on the pupils to be good ambassadors for environmental change.
He indicated that, regardless of where a school is located, a healthy school environment is comfortable and secure from danger radiates and sends a caring message.
He admonished the pupils to successfully manage the school environment which he said is necessary and essential educational investment.
“Your primary concern should be sanitation related issues, you have to clean your homes, your school, and your community all the time. You keep the all water bodies clean, that is the only way we can all live long. Climate is changing because of our own doing therefore with concerted efforts we can deliver tremendous results.”
The officer in charge of the NCCE in the Ga North Municipal, Madam Faustina Blewusi added her outfit as mandated by law, will continue to promote Ghana’s democracy to the citizenry to know their rights and obligations.
She laments about the inadequate resources which has bedeviled the NCCE and as a result has made it difficult for her to reach out to many schools within her jurisdiction.
Madam Faustina however, call on the pupils to be disciplined and help stop littering the environment and improper disposal of refuse.
Assistant Headteacher of the school Madam Linda Addae was full praises for the opportunity and has also calls on Ghanaians to make everyday a sanitation day instead of every week or month.
