The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumbungu Constituency in the Northern Region has counselled his fellow MPs to eschew arrogance if they want to be MPs for longer years.
Ras Mubarak observed that “if you are arrogant, you will lose elections because we have seen MPs lose in the first term not because they are not performing but because they were arrogant”.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP was speaking on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Wednesday hosted by Nana Yaw Opare.
The first-time MP said MPs who want to reign for long must not have to roll up in their cars and drive away when they visit their constituents because they voted them into that position.
Commenting on the 2017 budget statement presented by the Finance Minister last Thursday, Mr. Mubarak said “removing taxes on domestic airlines means nothing to farmers” because they predominantly use vehicles and some even use motor bicycles for their errands. He explained that “those taxes will do nothing to them. Those in the rural areas will not benefit but it will benefit only a few people who patronise domestic flights”.
Ban on vehicle importation
The former Chief Executive Officer for the National Youth Authority (NYA) said: “we should put a ban on importation of vehicles into the country”.
“We should start manufacturing vehicles here to create employment and when these vehicles get spoiled, we will be ingenious. We shall repair them here to create employment”.
