Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive, has appealed to students to be humble to their teachers and guardians so they would become responsible leaders in future.
Mr Agyekum said this when addressing a durbar of students and members of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Nkoranza Senior High Technical School to climax the Student Representative Council (SRC) Week celebration at the school’s premises at the weekend.
The week’s celebration was under the theme “Empowering the youth to take up roles as future leaders”.
The DCE expressed concern about indiscipline amongst some students in the district and warned them against “Wee” smoking and alcoholism, which he said would have damaging effects on their health and education.
He called on the students of the school to be law-abiding and respectful to people in authority so they would grow to command respect as good role models.
Madam Philippa Banson, Nkoranza South District Director of Education, cautioned the students against pre-marital sex, explaining that such negative attitudes of the youth had caused a number of promising students to drop out of school.
The headmistress of the school, Nana Emilia Fosu Rachael, commended the leadership of the students in the school for promoting discipline among the students.
The headmistress, who is also the Queenmother of Tuobodom near Techiman, warned that the management and authorities of the school would not countenance wrong doings of students.
In his welcoming address, the senior prefect, Master Adjei-Takyi, who is announced the school obtained 100 percent passes in last year’s 2010-2011 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
He expressed appreciation to students of the school for contributing GHC5.00 each to raise a total amount of GHC9,000.00 that was used for the construction of a ‘Summer Hut’ for the school.
