Owabi (Ash), Aug 4, GNA - People in the various constituencies have been advised to be more modest and reasonable in the demands they make on their Members of Parliament (MPs).
Mr James Adusei Sarkodie, MP for Atwima-Nwabiagya, said it was time they came to terms with the fact that it was simply impossible for MPs to meet every single development need of their constituents from their limited share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
He was addressing separate public forums at Owabi, Akropong and the Owabi Headworks as part of his tour of the constituency. The tour was designed to provide him an opportunity to educate the people on some important national issues and to listen to the concerns of the people so as to better articulate them on the floor of Parliament.
Mr Sarkodie said much as the MPs would have wished to see their areas develop at a faster pace, they were constrained by inadequate financial resources.
"The little support that we are able to offer to the communities should, therefore, be appreciated".
The MP told the people to organise themselves into co-operatives to enable them to benefit from micro-credit schemes to expand their economic activities.
The people complained about the poor telephone system in the area; bad roads, particularly the stretch from Esaase to the Owabi Headworks and the threat of erosion.
The Owabi residents renewed their appeal to the government to help re-locate them to a new settlement to save them from persistent floods by the Owabi River.
