The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has urged the party's agents and executives to be on high alert and police the ballot boxes as they move from the polling stations to the collation centres.
According to him, the NDC has gathered intelligence that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has activated their rigging machinery into full force, urging the NDC's officials to be extremely vigilant.
Sammy Gyamfi made the disclosure in a press conference at the NDC's head office:
"We have picked intel that the NPP has now activated their rigging machinery to its full potential. In the next couple of minutes, and in fact, they have already started. They will be engaging in or trying to snatch ballot boxes, swap pink sheets, and use their thumbs to manipulate the outcome of the election results. Don't forget what happened at Techiman South in 2020. So let's all remain vigilant. This is not the time for celebration.
"The time to celebrate the election outcome will soon come, but now we need to work. Let's ensure that the process will be peaceful and that the will of the people at the polls in all of the over 40,000 polling units is what will count and stand at the end of the day."
The 2024 elections were conducted across 276 constituencies nationwide, with the process being largely peaceful. However, isolated incidents of violence have been recorded, including the confirmation of one death in the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged Ghanaians and political parties to exercise patience as it fulfills its mandate of delivering a successful election.
