Ahead of the Basic Education Certificate Examination which begins on Monday, July 8, 2024, across the country, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has cautioned candidates to be wary of the activities of rogue website operators, whose primary aim is to circulate fake questions and lure them into subscribing.
Addressing the media at a press briefing on July 5, Head of Public Affairs for WAEC, John Kapi raised concerns over how some unscrupulous persons deceitfully lure candidates into paying huge sums of money for ‘apor’.
According to Mr Kapi, most candidates who fall for these tricks lose focus on their books and hence perform poorly during the exams.
Mr Kapi appealed to the public to be extra careful during the examination week.
Candidates will commence the BECE by writing the English language and end on Monday, July 15 with Arabic.
The council noted that public school candidates will be examined based on the newly introduced Common Core Curriculum while private candidates will be examined on the old syllabus.
A total of 569,095 candidates comprised of 282,648 males and 286,447 females are expected to participate in the exam.
Meanwhile, the council has warned against the usage of mobile phones and other electronic communication devices by candidates at the exam halls. Candidates found culpable will be severely dealt with.
