Assistant Coach of Bechem United, Osei Wire, has revealed to Class Sports the team would file a complaint against Kotoko after head Coach Manuel Zacharias was manhandled by a section of fans of Kotoko in their GPL game over the weekend.
Some fans of Kotoko allegedly vented their anger at the away team’s coach after they had managed to pick a point from the game. Bechem United had earlier eliminated Kotoko from the MTN FA Cup on penalties.
“When the referee blew his whistle for the end of proceedings, we were heading towards the dressing room when a section of the Kotoko fans started struggling with the white man (Manuel Zacharias). I wanted to go and protect him, but I got some slaps and then some [punches] on my stomach. We didn’t know what was happening, so we informed the Match Commissioner about the actions of the Kotoko fans”, Mr Wire said.
He added that Club President Kingsley Osei Bonsu would pursue the matter to its logical conclusion, as “these acts are unacceptable” in football.
The Porcupine Warriors have drawn three of their last five games, a situation which has seen them drop crucial points in the race for the Premiership title. They play Dwarfs in midweek [Wednesday, July 20] with Bechem United playing hosts to Ashgold.
