The Acting General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Bede Ziedeng, was last Tuesday ambushed and attacked by NPP thugs after the Odododiodioo bye-election and had to be rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, wounded and nearly blinded in one eye.
In a rare display of courage and bravado, however, Mr Ziedeng and his comrades in the car with him managed to overpower and arrest the assailants and handed them over to the police.
In a statement to the police, Mr Ziedeng disclosed that he was the NDC polling agent at the Railway Yard polling station of the Odododiodioo constituency on the bye-election day. After close of voting and the completion of counting, and while on his way to the Collation centre at the City Engineer's Department, he and his comrades in the car were suddenly attacked by some NPP thugs who had laid ambush for him at the main entrance leading out of the railway yard.
The attackers banged on his car on all sides and one of them rained blows on his face, injuring him in the left eye. They also damaged his Toyota Corona saloon car with registration number UR148p. They then hopped into a waiting taxi and attempted to escape.
According to Mr Ziedeng's statement, he however managed to quickly recover from the blows and gave them a hot chase to the UTC traffic light where with the assistance of two of his companions, they were able to arrest the attackers who were three in number and take them to the police station. The attackers have since been bailed whilst investigations continue.
