Ghana’s Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has appealed to French businesses to continue to develop confidence in the Ghanaian economy and invest.

Speaking at the Ghana-Bordeaux Business forum in Accra, Amissah-Arthur lauded the French government for its tremendous support in almost every sector of the economy, especially in the area of financial assistance.

According to him, in the past 15 years, Ghana has witnessed a rapid increase in economic and commercial relations with France with the trade balance in favour of the West African side.

He said Ghana’s objective is to increase trade with the European side, adding there are 60 French companies doing business in the country in various sectors - banking, finance, petroleum, agriculture, transport and construction.

He lauded the strong historical ties that bind the two countries starting with traders in the early 20th century when CFAO and SCOA arrived to pursue commercial interest. According to him, the government is working hard to address the short term challenges the economy is facing.

The delegation which is led by the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Municipal Council of Bordeaux, France will also follow up on partnerships formed amongst delegates and institutions in order to facilitate concrete outcomes and agreements on the private sector, academic and municipal levels.
